Bringing my Passion to Life

I’ve finally taken the plunge to start my own business. I’m super excited to say that I get to bring my love for organizing and decluttering along with my passion for health and wellness with me to my work. I’ve decided to focus on kitchens because they truly are the heart of the home. Without them you’d have nothing but unhealthy, expensive, and time consuming take-out! Did I mention that there’d be no home-cooked meals? Yea, that would be a tragedy.

Unfortunately, so many people in this world go hungry and if you’re fortunate enough to have a kitchen, a roof over your head, and the ability to buy groceries, I’d say you’re pretty darn lucky. I don’t know why I always come to this, but 1 in 6 Americans face food insecurity. I lied, I guess I do know why I come back to that stat...and it’s because it’s scary. It gives me perspective and makes me feel grateful. I run on food. We all do, but I am thinking of my next meal while I’m still eating the one in front of me (ok maybe I have a problem ;-) ). But my heart always breaks when I hear of people who aren’t as lucky. I wish I could have a bigger impact.

But I digress, per usual….On my off-time when I’m not organizing, reorganizing, researching, cooking, or eating, you can find my nose in a book about something health related (Idiot's Guide to Ayurveda/ The Case Against Sugar), listening to my favorite wellness podcasts (The Ultimate Health Podcast, Dr. Taz Show, Bulletproof radio, I could go on...), finding new health gurus to follow on instagram (LeeFromAmerica, ShutTheKaleUp, TwistofLemons) or doing deep research on health topics like the effects of endocrine disruptors found in today's perfumes, the benefits of eating good fats, and so on. I can’t get enough of this kind of information because I’ve realized we’re a nation that suffers from self-care deficiencies and are constantly trying to find the right band-aid to mend our symptoms. But why use a band-aid when you can prevent the need for one altogether? That’s what intrigues me so much about the wellness world. Eating well is a form of self respect and every bite you take is either fighting disease or feeding it. Your health is an investment, and it’s worthy of your time and consideration.

"One day or day one, you decide" is one of my favorite quotes. It means so many things to me, but first and foremost it meant taking the plunge for my business. I could dream it or I could do it. So I did it! It also reminds me to think in terms of lifestyle, “diet,” or anything that feels out of reach, really. That moment when you say "well, one day". But why? Today could be that day! Any step you take toward a better you is part of your “day one” to a happier, healthier you. Even if your morning starts off on the wrong foot or you ate something you wish you hadn't, there's always a reset button ready to be pressed at any time. Give yourself grace, move on, and do something good!

What’s the worst that can happen? Make today your day one and do something good for you. Self care is not selfish!

Peace, love & cozy kitchens,

amber
