Fear vs. Reality
Here is a quick list of the most common fears that occur when wanting to get organized or implement new, healthy habits. It's not unusual to have questions, in fact, it's healthy to investigate and want to learn. As with many things, you just need to get started somewhere. It doesn't have to be all or nothing. Small goals for the win!
Fear: Cooking takes too much time
Reality: Remember, it will take you just as long to order, drive somewhere, and come home. Continuing that pattern can take a toll on your health and your wallet.
Fear: I’m a bad cook
Reality: Most of us are when we begin! Cooking can be learned. It can also be made very simple. There is no need for complex recipes!
Fear: I don’t want this in a cabinet or drawer, I use it everyday.
Reality: How many times a day do you use it? Is it worth the counter space? Sometimes it’s worth the 3 extra seconds it takes to get it in/out of the cupboard because it can save a lot of clutter on the counters (and space in your brain!).
Fear: I don’t want to get rid of it...I might use it.
Reality: How long have you had it? How many times have you used it? When was the last time? Can you use the 20/20 rule? (Buy this item within 20 minutes for under $20)
If you’ll use it this week...keep it. Try it out.
If you don’t like it after using it. Donate it.
Fear: I’m afraid this (eating) lifestyle is going to be expensive
Reality: If you’re eating out less, you’ll be saving. Long-term medical costs are far more expensive. You can’t put a price on your health. Fresh & seasonal ingredients are generally cheaper than pre-made meals and bulk cooking will negate many costs.
Fear: I have picky eaters on my hands
Reality: Making small changes can be a great start. Offering something new on their plate each day can help open them up to new things.
Fear: I have so much to do. How will I have time to get organized and get it all done?
Reality: If you spend several hours prioritizing getting organized, it will help you become more efficient in the long run and help you to get more done in a day. You may have to reschedule one thing or another in the beginning, but doing that now will only help free up your time in the future for what's important.
